The Cherimoya (Annona cherimola) – called Cherimoya, Chirimoya or Cherimoya in South America and Spain – is a tree of the family Annonaceae giving fruit called the cherimoya, whose taste is similar to cinnamon apple, of beef heart and soursop, all from trees of the genus Annona. The name of the plant is from a Quechua word, chirimuya, meaning “cold seeds” and indicates that the seeds are able to germinate at high altitudes.
The Cherimoya is a shrub from February to July meters, the bushy, often branched from the base. The young branches are covered with a red blanket. The whole leaves, obovate-lanceolate, 8 to 12 cm in 4-6 cm, have the upper face and hairless, and significantly lower velvety. The flowers have fleshy petals. The fruits have white pulp and black seeds. The Cherimoya is native to the Andes, in South Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and northern Peru and grows wild at altitudes between 1300 meters and 2600 meters.

Cherimoya tree has proven to be an extremely potent cancer killer. Laboratory tests published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a similar survey conducted by the Catholic University of South Korea stated that cherimoya tree can selectively kill colon cancer cells with a greater capacity.
The laboratory tests carried out since 1970 have shown effectiveness, and kill malignant cells in 12 types of cancer, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas, and is more stronger by slowing the growth of cancer cells relative to “Adriamycin’’, a chemotherapy drug commonly used in cancer treatment. Unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from “the tree Cherimoya only kills cancer cells without harming healthy cells.
