This is a plant belonging to parsley family and grows to a height of 30-50 cm hence grouped as a shrub. This plant originated from East Mediterranean India in Asia and later found its way in Syria, Iran, Egypt and Turkey. The flowers produced are normally small and white or pink in color. The fruits from this plant have double mericarps with one seed. The seeds are long and quadrilateral in shape with eight ridges and oil canals. Fully mature seeds are brownish-black in color. In order to remove the seed, the fruit is dried first and then the seed is extracted from it. Sowing of this plant is done between October and December with the harvesting beginning in February.
